There should be no low performing schools in Charleston. It is time that the city truly partners with the Charleston County School District. The City may not have control over the school district, but stewarding our children’s development is not a responsibility that should be left to a single institution.

As Mayor, I will:

• Reinvigorate the Mayor’s Office of Children, Youth and Families

• Close the summer learning loss that exist among our youth

• Provide greater recreational opportunities for our youth

• Establish learning centers within our community centers

• Collaborate with partners to provide targeted resources that connect education, health, training and development, and mentoring to create better outcomes for our children’s early development and long-term future

• Work towards high quality child care for all through universal pre-k and child care tax credits
